Proposed text amendment to Vernonia Development Code: Chapter 9-05: Flood Hazard Management, File No. PA 25-01
When: Planning Commission – Thursday, June 5th, 2025, 7:00 pm. City Council – Monday, June 16th, 2025, 6:30 pm.
Where: Council Chambers, City of Vernonia, 1001 Bridge Street, Vernonia, OR
Why: Proposed text amendment to Chapter 5: Flood Hazard Management of Vernonia’s Title 9: Land Use and Development Code. The proposed amendments are in response to new requirements from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to maintain eligibility for the National Floodplain Insurance Program (NFIP).
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Vernonia Planning Commission will conduct a public hearing on a request by the City of Vernonia to amend Chapter 5: Flood Hazard Management of Vernonia’s Title 9: Land Use and Development code.
NOTICE IS ALSO HEREBY GIVEN that the Vernonia City Council will subsequently conduct a public hearing on the same item.
SAID PUBLIC HEARINGS will be held before the Vernonia Planning Commission on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at or after 7:00 pm, and tentatively before City Council on Monday, June 16th, 2025 in the Council Chambers of Vernonia City Hall, 1001 Bridge Street, Vernonia, Oregon at or after 6:30 pm, at which times proponents and opponents of the proposed amendment will be heard.
A STAFF REPORT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC at City Hall and on the City’s website (www.vernonia-or.gov) one week before the hearings, and may be copied for a nominal fee. Failure to raise an issue in a hearing, in person or by letter or failure to provide statements or evidence sufficient to afford the decision-maker an opportunity to respond to the issue precludes appeal to the board based on that issue. Public testimony is welcome, and written statements will also be received before the hearing.
