Public Notice - City Hall Offices Closed to Public

Based on new measures from the State of Oregon designating Columbia County as an “Extreme Risk” county, The City of Vernonia is implementing the following measures starting Thursday, December 3, 2020:

  1. Local City of Vernonia government buildings and offices will be closed to the public. This includes Vernonia City Hall, the Vernonia Public Library, Vernonia Public Works offices, and the Vernonia Police Department lobby.

  2. While the Library will be closed to the public, Library Staff will be operating during the current schedule and are available by appointment. Citizens may also access Library items via curbside pick-up.

  3. Vernonia police officers and Vernonia public works crews will continue to respond to emergency calls. For non-emergency contact dispatch at 503-397-1521. In the event of an emergency, call 9-1-1.

  4. Building and Electrical Permits may be submitted electronically by sending them to: cityhall@vernonia-or.gov. Building/Electrical permit forms are available at www.vernonia-or.gov. Building permits that require larger plans may be submitted by scheduling an appointment for drop off with staff. Please call 503-429-5291 to schedule an appointment.

  5. Columbia County Justice Court will be closed to the general public. If you had a previously scheduled court appearance, please contact Court staff at 503-429-2441 to be rescheduled or make a phone conference with the judge. Court fine payments can be made online at www.co.columbia.or.us click on Pay Online icon, click on Traffic Tickets icon, enter citation number.

  6. Vernonia citizens are encouraged to use the utility payment portal option for making utility billing payments. Payments may also be made over the phone by calling 503-429-5291, ext.101 during regular business hours.

  7. All City Committee and Commission meetings scheduled will be held virtually or canceled. Please check the City of Vernonia Calendar for updates.

  8. The City is returning all scheduled City Council meetings to a virtual meeting platform. Details for attending meetings will be posted on the meeting agenda. Public comment is suspended for these meetings. All other
