Press Release - Vernonia Police Department

The Vernonia Police Department has an open investigation on a runaway juvenile (VPD case #25-100).

The facts are as follows, on December 21st, 2025, Rose Sunshine reported her 15year old son (Skyyler) as a runaway with the Vernonia Police Department. She stated that he had runaway on or around December 11th, 2025, and returned on December 14th, 2025, at which time she took his cell phone and grounded him.

On December 16th, 2025, Rose stated that she took her two children to the Christmas program at the school at around 6:00pm, once inside she stated that Skyyler took off running in the crowd. The VPD officer on duty assisted her in looking for him for three hours, which they were unsuccessful. At that time Rose was advised to fill out a Vernonia Police Department Runaway Report.

On December 21st, 2025, Rose contacted VPD and filled out the report. Skyyler was entered into to LEDS/NCIC that same day.

On December 23rd, 2025, VPD received information from Vernonia Schools that there had been activity on Skyyler’s Dell 3400 Chromebook. The school was able to provide an activity log and IP address. The IP address came back to a specific area in Forest Grove.

On December 24th, 2025, VPD contacted Forest Grove PD and advised them of the incident and asked that they check the area (CAD WP 253580368). VPD confirmed that the IP address did belong to the Forest Grove area.

Currently, VPD has no evidence of foul play or that Skyyler is in Vernonia and is working with outside agencies during this investigation.
