Building Department Update - Oregon ePermitting
Posted by City Hall on May 23, 2025
The City of Vernonia is excited to announce a major step forward in streamlining our permitting processes with the upcoming transition to Oregon’s ePermitting software. Starting May 28, 2025, our residents, contractors, and business owners will benefit from a more efficient, user-friendly platform for submitting and tracking building permits and applications.
This new system will provide 24/7 access to online permit applications, inspections scheduling, and real-time status updates, making it easier than ever to navigate the permitting process. The ePermitting platform will increase transparency and reduce processing times, contributing to our commitment to enhancing customer service and supporting Vernonia’s continued growth.
As we prepare for this transition, we encourage residents and contractors to explore the new system ahead of the launch at BuildingPermits.Oregon.gov and reach out with any questions. Together, we are taking steps to make Vernonia’s building and development processes faster and more accessible. In anticipation for the conversation to this new system, no new permits will issued on May 27, 2025, but inspections will be performed. Permits will be issued the following day in Accela.
The Building Department is open weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm.

Current Permit Holders:
This new and improved system will affect any open/active permits and inspections. All application/permit numbers will change for all open/active records. All application/permit numbers will now begin with 895- then your current permit number including any letters, Example: 895-25-R-095.
You will need this updated version of your permit number in order to track status, schedule inspections, and other functionality. You can obtain this updated number after May 28, 2025 by going to the ePermitting website at BuildingPermits.Oregon.gov .. select the ‘Search’ button at the top of the page, then ‘Building Permits’. Enter your application/permit number in the “Permit/Application #” field to include the ‘895’. You can also search by address or ‘Name of Business’ which would be the licensed professional/contractor on the permit. Remember to change the search ‘Start Date’ if your record is older than the date indicated. Then scroll down and click on the Search button.
Once you have located your active application/permit online - you can track the status of this record, schedule inspections, pay fees (as per City payment policy), and upload documents as needed – as well as locate other very helpful resources related to building.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause, but it is necessary to update/upgrade our current system to the State ePermitting system in order to better serve you now and in the future. For questions or assistance with the transition, please contact the City’s Building Department at 503-429-5291 x 105.
