City of Vernonia to Decide Terms of Sale for 20 Acres September 3, 2007

The City of Vernonia owns a twenty acre parcel of land near Cedar Street and Third Avenue. After a previous public hearing and much deliberation, the City of Vernonia has decided to offer the property for sale. A second public hearing is scheduled for September 4, 2007 at 7pm at City Hall to hear public comment regarding the terms of sale.

This same land was logged in the early 90s and the proceeds helped to fund the construction of the new library and city hall. The current financial challenges of the city motivated the city council to decide the best interest of the citizens is to liquidate the property and add it to the tax roles. The council will be seeking comments from the citizenry regarding the terms of offering on the property. An appraisal, including maps and drawings displaying the acreage will be available for viewing. Citizen comments and suggestions are welcome and will help the council to make decisions for the community. Those unable to attend but would like to submit written comments, please contact Kate Conley at 503-429-5291. If you are unable to attend and would like to view the information, please feel free to contact City Hall.
