Krueger On Patrol June 7, 2006

PRESS RELEASE: VERNONIA, OR  -- Canine Officer, Krueger is patrolling the streets of Vernonia once again. Krueger began working for Vernonia Police Department in October of 2004 and was removed from service 12 weeks ago due to issues regarding insurance requirements. All those questions have been resolved and as of today the four year old Czech Border German Shepherd will accompany his partner, Officer Mike Kay on patrol.

Krueger is certified nationally through Drug Beat International and Advanced Canine. He is a dual purpose canine and can be used both for narcotics detection and for tactical patrol. He has assisted with search and rescue efforts and with tracking as well as narcotics investigations and criminal arrests.

Krueger has won the hearts and support of many citizens and business owners. At the June 5, 2006 City Council meeting, several citizens addressed the council with heartfelt pleasure to resolve the issues preventing the canine officer from being on duty. The City Council declared “number one priority” was to return the dog to service during the April 17, 2006 council meeting. Staff has worked to get this asset to the community back on the police force.
